Open Source Capital Investment

About

In today’s episode, I spoke with Joseph Jacks, the founder of OSS Capital. OSS Capital is an investment firm specializing in backing and supporting early-stage Commercial Open Source Software founders. Joseph also founded KubeCon, the de facto Kubernetes developer and user conference.

As one of the most well-known investors in the open-source space, Joseph generously provided deep insight into what he thinks we can expect to see develop in open source in the coming decades.

Some of the other topics we cover in this podcast are:

– Why did OSS Capital choose to focus on Commercial Open Source Software (also known as COSS)?

– What factors does Joseph consider when investing in COSS startups?

– How is open source going to eat the entire technology stack, all the way up to the application level?

– Why commercial open source is less of a zero-sum game than wholly commercial alternatives.

– And towards the end, Joseph offers a contrarian perspective into the question of sustainability in open source.
