All software installations and applications need some form of storage, whether a single drive on a single computer or a storage array distributed across multiple many-drive nodes. In recent years, it has been common to bring needs for distributed, scalable storage to the cloud: delegating the hardware and software procurement, setup, and maintenance to a vendor. Why go to the trouble of figuring out a storage solution when someone else could take care of it for you?
Well—what if that storage solution wouldn’t actually be all that much trouble, and in reality give you far more flexibility, power, and features than a cloud vendor could provide. The open source project TrueNAS is a tried and tested storage solution across all scales and use cases, and is relied upon by most of the Fortune 500 companies.
Kris Moore, SVP of Engineering at iXsystems and head of TrueNAS Engineering, discusses how TrueNAS provides enterprise-grade storage for everyone, opening the door to the era of truly Open Storage.
