OpenTeams Announces CEO Transition, Marking Next Phase of Growth and Product Expansion

Travis Oliphant will assume CEO role as the company builds on Joe Merrill’s leadership transforming OpenTeams into a product-driven AI company centered on Nebari.

Travis Oliphant, CEO, OpenTeams

Today, I want to recognize and thank Joe Merrill for his visionary leadership as CEO of OpenTeams during one of the most transformative periods in our company’s history.
When Joe joined OpenTeams in October 2024, we were a small but ambitious team with a large network of strong partners and key clients but operating as a service provider supporting companies doing open source consulting including AI and machine learning. In less than two years, Joe led a strategic transformation of the company.
Under his leadership, OpenTeams:
  • Successfully revised its services marketplace focus to a product-driven AI company centered on Nebari.
  • Completed the acquisition of Quansight’s consulting division, strengthening our technical depth and open-source leadership.
  • Created a government sales team including a partnership with Carahsoft.
  • Started a $100 million Series A financing with a pre-money value for the merged Quansight and OpenTeams company at $400m.
  • Expanded its participation in global conversations on distributed and sovereign AI, from The World Economic Forum in Davos to major world capitals.
Joe positioned OpenTeams for long-term institutional growth in sales and marketing. The positioning and processes built under his leadership will continue to serve the company as we enter our next chapter.
Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Ross Coffman, Director on the OpenTeams Board, shared:

“Joe’s leadership during this period of rapid transformation has been recognizable. He brought global visibility to OpenTeams. His ability to expand our sales opportunities and create connections with investors elevated the company into national and international AI conversations.”

With the next phase being tied deeply to Nebari product development and expansion (acquired from Quansight), Joe and the Board agreed that this is the right moment for me to step into the CEO role. Joe will continue to help OpenTeams going forward, and we remain aligned in our commitment to advancing sovereign AI and AI Independence with private intelligence hubs built using the open source Nebari ecosystem.
On behalf of the Board and the entire OpenTeams team, I thank Joe for his leadership, partnership, and enduring impact on the company’s trajectory.
We are building something significant, and Joe’s contributions will remain a foundational part of that story.
